in the beginning was the dream and the dream was in GOD
and GOD was the dreamer
all things were made by dreaming
and finally the Dream itself was made flesh.

The final and correct interpretation of John 1.1
by Hellrider inyup, i finally did it.
i solved the problem.
this is the final and correct interpretation of john 1.1. it came to me after reading a quote by origen: "if anyone would say that the word of god or the wisdom of god had a beginning, let him beware lest he direct his impiety rather against the unbegotten father, since he denies that he was always father, and that he has always begotten the word.

by stillAwitness intheme: keep your eye simple.
okay, duh.
when jesus spoke of keeping a simple eye he obviously was speaking about something more mental than literal right?

what is THE TRUTH but something con artists invented to sell to their marks?
it seems to me there are two basic forms of logic-- traditional binary logic where you ask a yes or no 21 questions like deal and the universe answers yes or no....
and then there is what seems to be reality, fuzzy logic, where every answer is a guess to some degree and you gamble on what seems mostly likely at the moment which can change back and forth over the course of time...
in the binary logic world THE TRUTH seems firm and established, yet can be completely false as a yes or no answer when maybe is the actual result is often seen as a yes or no depending on beliefs already held and that leads to paradoxes and controversies..... does the bible teach an immortal soul? JWs and others say no, most others say yes.

Where did God go??
by fairchild init has been over 10 months now since i stopped going to the kingdom hall.
i had imagined how i would really find my way to god now that i was no longer being misled by the wts ( for - profit) publishing company.
i kept reading the bible, because people on jwd had told me how i would see it in a different light.

I have not seen anything in my lives that shows me that anything intelligently made was not made by someone that evolved to attain that intellect from very simple universal stuff. there is no reason to suspect that it was ever different as far as I can tell....
to think that a being who had no one to learn from and nothing to learn could just magically have the intellect to be able to make intricate design without some form of evolutionary trial and error as the universe seems to have performed seems just silly.

Removing "God"
by startingover in.
with the continuing thiest-athiest debates that go one here, i have a question, mainly for believers.. as a believer in god, how does it make you feel when you hear about athiest michael newdow's efforts to have "in god we trust" removed from us currency?
i guess this question could include the 10 commandments being displayed on public building issue, or removing reference to god from the pledge of allegiance.

if this is a nation for the people and by the people than he is right that no god[s] need apply, however trying to introduce honesty into government is like trying to introduce it into religion....aint gunna happen.

Of Late Many Here Seem To Be Preaching Aethiesm..
by Qcmbr inwhen i first came here a while back there was plenty of discussion around and about jw topics and general chit chat but of late i've felt quite a sharp increase in posts that are: .
1/ preaching aethism (as opposed to putting it forward in a respectful way as an alternate viewpoint.
2/ vitriolic attacks on those who dare have another view ('damn those stupid heretical believers') .

for those who believe and those who do not believe there is one common goal still --the search for truth.
and when there is no verifiable answer "I don't know" is still an honest answer.
religion teaches people to have faith and believe, it does not teach them to lie and pretend to know or misrepresent faith and belief as facts.
atheists disbelieve in god because they find no facts nor reasons to hold such a belief, but if they found some, the honest ones would at least become agnostic.
there is no valid reason any one can give me for why a real and true, honest and sane being would ever desire me to lie to myself in order to be pleasing to him or her and I would expect nothing less from any real god[s] that may care about my view of them.

Creation stories -- why?
by Narkissos inthe issue of creation is very often discussed here.
i for one don't feel the need for yet another "creation vs. evolution" debate, nor even for an additional discussion on the details and meaning(s) of the genesis stories.
rather, i would like to start a more basic discussion on creation narratives in general, as those seem to be found in most cultures as far back as the history of writing goes.

I think we all want some sort of answers and some of us are able to simply accept something they heard and not need to question it further... many seem devoid of curiosity but then there are those such as myself who seek to find some satisfying answer that fits all the facts and explains all the experiences....
for me it kind of came out this way....
ultimately there are many minds which are always part of one system, like many waves upon one ocean...and the one ocean at the same time, always have been always will be the one and the many.... and in all the eons of time the one thing that those who made this realm, the earth, matter and energy, wanted more than anything else was unpredictability... so they, we, collectively created a shared dream which satisifies all of our desires collectively... making it unpredictable and essentially fair to all by forcing it to be based on some standardized elements. [though most games do have cheat codes (^_^) and I suspect that this one is no different.] so here we are, essentially committing pre-meditated chronocide by means a multi-dimensional virtual reality game of our own making... as we move towards creating techological utopias which can give us, individually, everything we desire, I see the gamers as being threatened by their own homesickness and so I suspect all these myths of the end of the world are based in a fact that a needed reset of the game must occur every once in a while to keep it unpredictable.

"Science has proven that God doesn't exist"
by AlmostAtheist ina quote from a poster on another thread that i promised myself i wouldn't hijack:a portion of [posters on jwd are] antitheists which means they hold the view that science has already proved that god doesn't exist.
may i ask, who are these posters?
i don't read every post on jwd, i could buy that i just missed it.. atheists by and large have come to that point by realizing that things that can't be proven shouldn't be believed outright.

a story is just a story until there is evidence that it is more....
is there a god? are there many gods? should I worry if one of these gods is going to smite me for my lack of faith in him?
is there any reason I would chose one god to worry about over the others?
if there is a god or gods, can they be trusted? are they sane?
would a sane god require me to abandon my "god" given ability to reason?
